Parkinson's Disease is a movement disorder that causes its sufferers to experience involuntary muscle contractions and movements. A person with this disease may also have their mental faculties impaired as well.
What causes Parkinson's Disease?
Parkinson's is caused when neurons in the substantia nigra die or become impaired. Because these cells are responsible for the production of dopamine which allows for smooth functions throughout the body are damaged, involuntary or "non-smooth" motion occurs.
How is Parkinson's Diagnosed?
Parkinson's Disease occurs throughout the world in both men and woman equally. It is difficult to diagnose as there are no blood or x-ray work that can lead to a definite diagnosis so it is arrived at by a process of elimination.
Is there a cure?
Although there is no cure for Parkinson's, it can be managed though medicine and even surgery as a last resort.
