VITAMIN K: KOAGULATION

Vitamin K, a fat-soluble vitamin is required for healthy blood clotting and formation of healthy bones and teeth. It is often referred to as the "forgotten vitamin" since such a small amount is required (70-140 micrograms per day for an adult). Its named after koagulation, a German name meaning co-agulation.

Vitamin K is in its highest concentrations in leafy vegetables, liver and cheeses. It is easily destroyed by radiation, freezing and air pollution but can withstand heat. The body stores little but bacteria in the intestines can manufacture it. Deficiencies in vitamin K causes nosebleeds, internal hemorrhages but it is very rare. Its very hard enough to eat natural foods enough to cause toxicity but synthetic vitamin K3 (menadione) overdoses cause sweating, flushing and anemia.

Not all the articles are about nutrition, however, and there are lucid writings on related topics like stress and exercise.
