Volleyball is a sport, which is played by two opposing teams with one ball and net dividing the two teams. The two opposing teams attempt to hit the ball over the net to the opposing teams side using their arms and hands and maybe other parts of the body on occasion. A point is awarded to a team if the ball hits the court of the opposing teams court. The court is 9 meters wide and 18 meters long. The height of the net is 2.43 meters for men and 2.24 meters for women. There is also a 3-inch attack line in each teams court parallel to the net. This is called the attack line. Each team has 6 players on the court at a time (3 behind the attack line and 3 in front of the attack line). After gaining a serve the teams members must rotate clock wise.
Skills
Serve
An over hand or underhand serve is when the players is behind the endline and hits the ball into the opposing teams court.
Pass
An attempt by a team to handling the opposing teams serve or hit.
Set
Is the second form of contact a team makes with the ball. This is used to set up the ball for an attack hit into the other teams court.
Attack
Also known as a spike, this is the third form of contact a team will have after receiving the ball from an opposing team. After a set a player spikes the ball in a hard motion towards the other players court.
Block
An action a team makes to stop the other teams spike or hit.
Dig
A move to prevent the ball from touching the ground after an opposing players strike.
