Darts is a game played when darts are thrown at a circular target board. Today darts is usual a standardized game, which involves a set of rules and set board design. The sport is common in many pubs and was first recognized by the United Kingdom. Today other countries, which play the sport include the United States, Netherlands, Israel, Ireland and various Scandinavian countries. Some believe the game originated with soldiers who threw short arrows at wine casts or at the bottom of tree trunks. Soon regional standards appeared and wood makers would supply bars with dartboards for the local pub.
Darts boards are usually made of two types of materials, which are sisal fibers or boar bristles. The board size is usually sized at 18 inches across and is divided into 20 secitons and each is separated by a thin metyal wire. The boards are usually hung at eyes level for a 6 foot man, usually at 5ft 8in. The player must stand behind a line called a oche, which is normally 7ft 9 inches in tournament play. The standards may differ from non-tournament play.
Scoring
Points are scored when the player lands the dart in a number section of the board.
-in the thin outer portions of the board double points are scored in red sections, while green scores double the points value in that section.
-triple scores are made when the thin inner portions of these sections, roughly halfway between the outer wire and the central circle and again coloured red or green are landed.
The central ring which is divided into a green outter ring is worth 25 points, while the red inner circle is worth 50 points. By landed a dart in this section one can use the term bulls eye.
