Myopia Books from myfoodcount.com

Myopia, sometimes called near-sightedness or short-sightedness, is a refractive defect of the eye in which collimated light produces image focus in front of the retina when accommodation is relaxed. This may be caused by a defect of the cornea (generally where the cornea protrudes too far outward from the eye) or from elongation of the eye structure itself (generally the eye is too long). Those with myopia typically can see nearby objects clearly but distant objects appear blurred. The opposite defect of myopia is hyperopia or "far-sightedness" or "long-sightedness" - this is where the cornea is too flat or the eye is too short.

Worldwide, myopia is the most common eyesight problem. About one quarter of the adult population in the United States is myopic. In some countries, such as Japan, Singapore and Taiwan, up to 44% of the adult population is myopic.

Mainstream ophthalmologists and optometrists most commonly correct myopia through the use of corrective lenses, such as glasses or contact lenses. It may also be corrected by refractive surgery, such as LASIK. The corrective lenses have a negative dioptric value (i.e. are concave) which compensates for the excessive positive diopters of the myopic eye.

How I Cured My Myopia : Prevent and reverse nearsightedness without glasses, contact lenses and surgery
by David De Angelis

How I Cured My Myopia is an innovative book in the field of visual rehabilitation and it is completely different from everything ever published before.

Indeed, David De Angelis proposes extremely efficacious system regarding prevention and gradual treatment of refractive errors (myopia and hyperopia). De Angelis’ system is different from the Bates’ one (ocular gymnastic) since it is based on completely innovative scientific studies which have been carried out in the last fifty years (retinal defocus). The system’s efficacy comes from the fact that it directly intervenes over the causes which generate myopia onset and development (overaccommmodative/near-point stress). Ocular refractive capability—when adequately stimulated by the exercises that are proposed in his book—leads to gradual strengthening of one’s focusing capability with consequent gradual decreasing of his refractive error.

The book is documented with a huge scientific bibliography (as reference). It is addressed both to the scholars in the field and to everyone who would like to undertake a way of cure which overcomes simple wearing glasses, contact lenses and refractive surgery.

Myopia Manual: An Impartial Documentation of All the Reasons, Therapies and Recommendations
by Klaus Schmid

I've never seen such a comprehensive resource on myopia that is directed at the consumer. It covers the "what is myopia" in great detail (down to details of saccadic motion, convergence, monochromatic aberration, etc.), then an exhastive analysis of the various theories of causation (genetics, close-work, nutrition, visual habits, brain function, oxidative damage, auto-immunity, personality/psychology, neurotransmitters, melatonin, cortisol and other hormones, and more). There are over a thousand end-note references that back up the information.

In regard to treatment, we get the same careful, exhaustive analysis. Everything from biofeedback devices, plus lens therapy, vision therapy, etc., and the degree of success each appears to offer.

The Myopia Myth: The Truth About Nearsightedness and How to Prevent It
by Donald S. Rehm

This book should be read by every parent so that no child ever becomes nearsighted. The people who wrote the negative reviews below are forgetting that eye doctors also sell products, and most of the eyeglasses that they sell only lead to more eye exams and thicker glasses - which is more money for the doctors. Take a look at the author's website by typing in "myopia" on any search engine and going to The Myopia Myth. READ THIS BOOK!

Myopia and Nearwork
by Mark Rosenfield (Editor), Bernard Gilmartin (Editor)

"[A] splendid text... An extensive literature is embraced, as shown by the series of references for each chapter. Optometrists, with the care of pre registration students, and local groups in need of some gently controversial subjects, would do well to use this book as the basis for helpful discussions." Professor Robert Fletcher, Optometry Today, November 1998

Myopia Updates: Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Myopia (International Conference on Myopia//Proceedings)
by jap International Conference on Myopia (1964- ) 1996 Hakone-Machi, Takashi Tokoro

The incidence of myopia is rapidly increasing worldwide, and the condition may well become the most prevalent abnormality found in humans. Although the mechanism of myopia has not been fully clarified, there has been an impressive increase in our understanding in the last few years. Important questions about myopia are being posed by researchers across a broad spectrum of disciplines from psychology to molecular biology, from corneal surgery to retinal physiology, and from genetics to experimental optics. The Sixth International Conference on Myopia, held in Hakone, Japan, in September 1996, provided a forum for researchers and practitioners to gather for presentations and discussions of their latest findings. Many doctors from Asian countries, where the incidence of myopia is particularly high, reported the results of recent epidemiological studies. In bringing together information on pathology, epidemiology, experimentation, and treatment, this volume covers all aspects of myopia research and is an essential source for optometrists and ophthalmologists, as well as pathologists, biologists, biochemists, pharmacologists, and physiologists interested in ocular growth or myopia.

Vision And Myopia - Balancing The Future And The Now -- an EXECUTIVE HORIZONS e-Doc
by Leslie L. Kossoff

Leslie L. Kossoff, a leading international executive advisor, knows the value of executive vision. She also knows the power of purposeful shortsightedness. "The best executives," she posits, "live in the forest and the trees." By keeping their vision simultaneously farseeing and myopic, executives ensure that their organizations are nimble and able to respond to any and every market opportunity the moment it presents itself. In a world where change is a constant, this balanced vision is not just a skill -- it is a necessity. Kossoff is the author of two books, Executive Thinking and Managing for Quality, and served as an associate of Dr. W. Edwards Deming. This e-Doc is published by BrownHerron Publishing, with permission.

Complex Cases with LASIK: Advanced Techniques and Complication Management
by Louis Probst

The ability to effectively manage complications and complex cases is essential for the success of any LASIK practice. Complex Cases with LASIK provides a comprehensive review of some of the most common and many of the most challenging LASIK cases, so that every LASIK surgeon can feel confident managing complex surgical strategies and outcomes.
This book represents a collection of more than 85 complex LASIK cases from the world's most prominent refractive surgeons who have a combined experience of over 200,000 LASIK procedures. Common LASIK complications such as epithelial ingrowth and flap striae are addressed, as well as the less common but difficult complications of central islands, buttonhole flaps, LASIK interface keratitis, and irregular astigmatism. LASIK contraindications are also reviewed to demonstrate complex case outcomes.

The complex cases are divided into categories and each subsection contains a summary that describes the current concepts for those problems. Each complex case starts with a standard data page outlining the critical case information. The case presentation includes clinical, intraoperative, and postoperative photographs, as well as relevant topographies. Each case is followed by an editorial comment summarizing the key points and highlighting the pearls and pitfalls.

This book is an essential resource for both the aspiring and experienced LASIK surgeon.

Reversing Nearsightedness (or Myopia)
by John William Yee

Shocked by the news that you are nearsighted. Or perhaps you have been nearsighted for a long time, and you sort of gave up on a cure—except for laser surgery. But suppose you can’t afford the cost (and risk) of laser surgery.

Not to worry. There is another option. At a fraction of the cost, you can naturally reverse the myopic shape of the lens and eyeball without tampering with the cornea.

And it will only take ten (10) minutes. Sounds incredible? Not really. John Will Yee has been performing this procedure, called orthoculogy (Latin for "correcting the whole eyeball"), for the last ten years. Find out how it is done.

John William Yee was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He graduated from Saint Mary’s University, University of Waterloo, Ryerson University, and Alberta Institute of Technology. He studied philosophy, psychology, mechanical engineering, and optometry.

Reversing Nearsightedness is his eighth "speciality" book where he applies natural means of altering the curvature of the whole eye (the cornea, the lens, and the eyeball) to "reverse" one’s nearsightedness—instead of just changing the curvature of a part of the eye (like the cornea, for example, by means of laser surgery or orthokeratology; or the lens, by means of intraocular lens implant).

He taught creative writing at York University and high school English and math (grade 12 and OAC). At present, he still conducts research, offers seminars, and is preparing his next book on altering severe nearsightedness. He is also a martial arts instructor. He specializes in teaching several styles of martial arts and self-defense to youths and officers of the Toronto Police Service. He was also an officer with the Toronto Police, and he continues to correct the vision of potential police officers who failed the vision requirement.
