The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing: Curing Your Hit Impulse in Seven Simple Lessons
by Michael McTeigue

Most golf instruction books are written by famous performers about how they personally swing the club, and there's no doubt the better ones can be helpful-especially if you share the authors's athleticism, ambition, appetite for work, and opportunities for practice and play.

This book was written by a very bright but at the time "unfamous" young teacher whose daily bread depended on delivering permanetly decent-to-good golf games to averagly endowed people with no interest in becoming slaves to the sport. He became so successful at that in his immediate community that his pupils demanded he put the system on paper for their constant reference and reminder. He called the result The Keys to the Effortless Golf Swing, and sent it to a number of star players, one of whom passed it on to me. After one quick reading I believed that the book would help so many other existing and would-be golfers to such an extent that it just had to be made available nationally. Jim McQueen, one of the world's top golf artists and a former professional, fully shared those sentiments and agreed to do the illustrations, and the nation's leading golf book publisher became an enthusiastic third party.

The key to Michael McTeigue's success with his thousands of pupils af all sizes, shapes, ages and ability levels in California, and the beauty of this book, is the clarity and simplicity and the supremely logical sequentiality of its approach to the golf swing.

Follow the easily mastered steps or "keys" in the recommended order and with a reasonable degree of patience, and in a remarkably short time, you will be experiencing entirely new sensations of both accurate striking and effortless power. Encouraged by those - and the accompanying evaporation of confusion - you will persist with these simple and clear cut moves until they become thoroughly muscle-memorized. At that point, you will be swinging the golf club effectively and with total confidence on every shot entirely by feel, which is the closest you or anyone else will ever come to golf's "secret" (ask any champion if you doubt that). Gone forever at long last will be the Band-Aids and the gimmicks and all that frustrating stumbling from one fruitless theory to another.

If you love golf and want to play better for a lot less effort, then forget Michael McTeigue's fame quotient and work with this little gem of a book. It could make you as big a fan of his as all those happy pupils for whom he originally wrote it.

Understanding the Golf Swing
by Manuel De LA Torre

Understanding the Golf Swing will show you a different, simpler approach to the golf swing. Manuel de la Torre, twice named by Golf Magazine as one of the top 100 golf instructors in America is the leading modern day proponent of Ernest Jones’ Swing Principles method of golf instruction. The book includes a passionate Foreword by Carol Mann, Member LPGA, Hall of Fame.

The de la Torre (and Jones) system presents a simpler approach to the golf swing, the emphasis being on the development of a true swinging motion, devoid of energy robbing leverage. In this view, “if the club is used properly the body movements take care of themselves.” This simple statement has the power to bring aobut profound improvements in your game.

While presenting a simpler approach to the golf swing, the book is also a comprehensive resource for all levels of golfer, from the beginner to the professional. It includes:

  • The most thorough analysis of ball flights found in any golf instructional book.
  • Detailed discussion of special shot play, including sand play, pitching, chipping, putting, and playing unusual shots.
  • Coverage of the mental site of golf, effective course management, and a formula for taking your best practice tee shots to the golf course.

Manuel de la Torre has twice been recognized by Golf Magazine as one of the top 100 golf professionals in America. He is typically described as today’s leading authority on the ‘Swing Principles’ method of instruction developed by the legendary golf instructor Ernest Jones.

The 7 Laws of the Golf Swing
by Nick Bradley

Leading tour coach Nick Bradley shows you how to build a powerful and consistent golf swing with his revolutionary approach, which distills the swing into seven laws to help golfers develop a greater awareness of the correct swing motion.

Coach, author, and course designer Nick Bradley has taught every category of golfer, including players in the Ryder Cup and the Walker Cup. He is also a frequent guest on radio and television, as well as a contributor to magazines such as Golf World and Golf Monthly.

Ernest Jones' Swing the Clubhead
by Ernest Jones

The teachings of Ernest Jones are of a distant generation, yet no one with the possible exception of Percy Boomer, has such an influence on modern day golf instruction. Jones is quoted in countless magazine articles, and golf instruction books by well known players and teachers, including Jack Nicklaus, and Gary McCord. McCord, most well known for his humor in golf broadcasts, is a very intelligent and serious student of the golf swing. In his book Golf for Dummies, McCord lists Swing the Clubhead as one of his Top Ten Golf Books.

Swing Like a Pro
by Ralph Mann

Golfers, as a breed, are willing to pry their unwilling bodies into any ungodly position if they think it will help their game, even more so if that position mirrors the languid power of, say, Sam Snead's, Fred Couples's, Payne Stewart's, or Tiger Woods's. Swing like a Pro tees up a new model, a computer-generated composite of more than 100 swings of the world's best golfers. The theory behind it is to isolate and emphasize those parts of the swings that all good swings have in common--the parts that every golfer, regardless of the entirety of motion, can adapt to his or her own. While the theory may be sound, the presentation is technically complex, as dry as a pot bunker on an August afternoon. If you already play the game, this may help shave a few strokes. If you're just starting out, head back to the range for a lesson.

Get Yourself in Golf Shape :Year-Round Drills to Build a Strong Flexible Swing
by Vijay Singh (Foreword), Cindy Reid, Steve Eubanks

Transform your body-and improve your game! This unique regimen will get you into "golf shape" so you can hit the ball longer, straighter, and with more consistency-with Cindy Reid's 11-day fitness program.

The golf swing is a simple motion. But it is not easy, Cindy Reid explains, because it is one of the most unnatural motions you will ever attempt. Only when you have retrained your body to automatically perform the specific muscle movements required for golf will you begin to develop the consistency every golfer strives for.

Reid, a former LPGA player and one of the great teachers of the game (Vijay Singh is one of her clients), combines golf swing theory with fitness exercises in a book that will revolutionize golf instruction. Here Reid:
o identifies the seven fundamental positions of the golf swing-and gives you drills to practice, on and off the course-to help you reach each position without conscious thought
o teaches you exercises that reshape your body into the ideal form for golf
o shares stretching routines and range drills to further elevate your game
There are 34 million golfers in America, and 90 percent of them can't break 100. Reid is convinced they can all improve their scores by getting into golf shape.

The Golf Swing
by David Leadbetter, John Huggan

Now, golfers can learn from the instructor who has helped Nick Faldo, Tom Watson, David Frost, Nick Price, and Bob Tway. In the most revolutionary instruction book since Ben Hogan's Modern Fundamentals, golfing guru David Leadbetter discloses the swing secrets that transformed the game of the Open and Masters champion Nick Faldo-and which can bring solid ball striking within the reach of any dedicated golfer. The 250 individual color illustrations bring the text to life, showing clearly how a sound golf swing can be developed in a step-by-step manner.

It is just as if David were giving you a lesson in your own home. As Nick Faldo says in his foreword, "What this book will give you is the chance to find out how good you really are."

David Leadbetter is the golf and teaching director at the Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, where he lives with his wife, Kelly, herself a professional golfer on the LPGA circuit, and their son, Andrew. Now recognized as one of the best teachers in the game, he numbers among his pupils Nick Faldo, Tom Watson, David Frost, Nick Price, and Bob Tway. The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need: Easy Solutions to Problem Golf Swings
by Hank Haney, John Huggan

The daring claim of the title is a lot to live up to, and Haney works hard to meet the challenge by focusing on the most essential part of the game--the swing. The book's 10 chapters are divided into three sections: "Understanding Your Swing," "Fixing Your Swing," and "Using Your Swing." Throughout, the secret at the core of his teaching should inspire in most golfers a sigh of relief: it's not how good the swing looks that matters, it's how well that swing strikes the ball. Through clear text and photo aids, Haney helps you understand the basic requirements of each shot well enough to fix mechanical problems without winding up in traction. He certainly helped Mark O'Meara, raising him from near oblivion to 1998 champion in both The Masters and the British Open.

Golf Can't be this Simple - The Swing is a golf swing instruction book. It describes Concept Golf's five swing principles that make good golf shots possible for all golfers.

Concept Golf is a way of teaching golfers how to swing and how to play the game that makes golf fun. The ideas are simple, golfers improve quickly, and their improvement is permanent. Countless golfers have proved that these ideas work. For most golfers the game is frustrating and sometimes embarrassing. Concept Golf teaches golfers with a few simple ideas; to be exact, there are 5 principles or fundamentals that create a good golf swing. The focus is on the shot results and not the swing mechanics.

Through Toepel's playing experience and 25 plus years as a teacher of golfers, he discovered the five swing principles that are the foundation of all good golfers' swings.

Natural Golf Swing
by George Knudson, Lorne Rubenstein

I think this should be required reading for all golfers. Over the years, my mind had overflowed with a multitude of swing thoughts on positioning of the hands, wrists, arms, elbows, ad nauseum. But the late Mr. Knudson discovered and revealed that the golf swing doesn't have to be so complicated and in fact shouldn't be. He says that weight shift and body rotation are what should drive the golf swing with the arms and hands remaining passive. The result is a less complicated and more reliable golf swing. He stated that he shot a score of 67 on 18 holes with this method with his eyes closed for all full swings. It may take a while and a lot of practice before the average golfer could perform such a feat, but I've taken Mr. Knudson's tips to the driving range and have seen promising results. Buy the book and work with it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. By the way, I totally agree with the previous reviewer who recommended this book and also recommended Jim Dent's "How to Be Long and Strong" video. The Jim Dent video essentially presents the same principles as Mr. Knudson's book and I have benefited from it as well.

The LAWs of the Golf Swing : Body-Type Your Swing and Master Your Game
by Mike Adams (Author), Jim Suttie (Ph.D.), T.J. Tomasi

Three of America's top-rated golf instructors have come up with a technique that customizes body type to swing type. The "LAWs" of the title The LAWs of the Golf Swing reflect those types: "L" for leverage (average build with average flexibility--think David Frost or Annika Sorensam); "A" for arc (tall with maximum flexibility--think Davis Love or Michelle McGann); and "W" for width (thicker torso and minimum flexibility--think Tom Lehman or Meg Mallon). Mike Adams, T.J. Tomasi, and Jim Suttie first help you identify which group you belong to, then offer a series of lessons and drills to help you construct the appropriate swing to minimize your natural deficiencies. In other words, they build on what you can do while at the same time assist you in getting out of your own way.
