Merritt Butrick (September 3, 1959 in Gainesville, Florida - March 17, 1989 in Los Angeles, California of AIDS) was an American actor who was best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk's son David Marcus in the movies Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. He also appeared in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Symbiosis". Earlier in his career he starred as "Johnny Slash" Ulasewicz in the sitcom Square Pegs.

Merritt was diagnosed with brain cancer (and AIDS) and succumbed to the disease in Los Angeles, California on March 17, 1989. He did not discuss his private life in public, and thus his sexual orientation remains in dispute, with some sources stating that he was gay or bisexual.
