Clint Howard (born April 20, 1959) is an American actor. He was born in Burbank, California, the son of actors Rance Howard and Jean F. Speegle Howard and the younger brother of actor-turned-director Ron Howard. He has Dutch, Scottish, English, Irish, German and Cherokee Indian ancestry.

As a child actor, Howard was the star of Gentle Ben. He was sometimes seen on The Andy Griffith Show as Leon, a toddler in a cowboy outfit who wandered freely around Mayberry and would silently offer people a bite of his sandwich. One of Howard's other roles as a child actor was the voice of the elephant Hathi's son Hathi, Jr. in 1967's The Jungle Book from Disney. He also was the voice of Roo in Disney's The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

Howard appeared in various Star Trek episodes:

• The Corbomite Maneuver, a first-season episode of Star Trek. He briefly reprises the character Balok he played on Comedy Central's roast of William Shatner;

• Past Tense Part II, a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode;

• "Acquisition", a first-season episode of Star Trek: Enterprise.

Howard appeared as a crazy thief, "Creepy Rodney", in an episode of My Name Is Earl, and as a serial killer on Seinfeld.

He also appeared as the character Johnny Bark in a first-season episode of Arrested Development, which was produced by his brother.

He appeared in an episode of Married...With Children as a creepy janitor.

Film

Howard has appeared in many of his brother's films. Howard often plays unpleasant characters, including a callous morgue attendant in Backdraft, a sour Little League parent who taunts Steve Martin in Parenthood, an uncaring retirement home worker in Cocoon, and Flynn, a demanding, abusive factory overseer in Far and Away. He also appeared as the head usher in Get Crazy, a television director in EdTV, a Southern-fried college football fan in The Waterboy, Seymour Liebergot in Apollo 13, and a father of one of the main characters in Uwe Boll's Heart of America. He also had a recurring role in each of the Austin Powers movies. His unique looks have also garnered him both supporting and lead roles in various low budget horror films, including the title role of the Ice Cream Man, Ricky in parts 4 and five of "Silent Night, Deadly Night," a gang member in The Wraith and a role in House of the Dead. He also played an animal catcher in Addams Family Reunion and most recently appeared in How To Eat Fried Worms in 2006 as Uncle Ed.

He also appeared in the 1997 movie directed by Tom Hanks That Thing You Do, as a radio interviewer of the Wonders rock group. Fredindeed 00:10, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Recognition

In 1998, Clint Howard was awarded the MTV Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Phoenix, a Boston-based newspaper, listed Howard as 22nd in their list of "100 unsexiest men in the world," one spot behind his brother Ron.

Mad magazine spoofed his cameo appearance in his brother's films with the article "The Clint Howard Collection".

Personal life

Married twice: firstly in 1986 to ?, divorced 1987, and secondly in 1995 to Melanie.

Clint is well known for his activity in the game World of Warcraft. Until recently, Clint had played on the Dark Iron server under the name Extas and Shotok. He recently transfered off the server and his whereabouts are currently unknown.

In the past, Clint experienced tax problems and had a stressful time with it. His line in Apollo 13, "That's no joke! They'll jump on him!" in response to Jack Swigert's comment about not filing his taxes on time, was claimed by the movie's director and Clint's brother, Ron Howard, to be completely improvised.
